2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
White Plains finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year White Plains finished eighth in Class 4A region five with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 1991. The defense allowed a team record 451 points last season. The Wildcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1994 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as White Plains averaged scoring just 12.7 points a game. The Wildcats also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 45.1 points a game. The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the White Plains football program has struggled with a record of 19-51. Over the past 25 seasons, White Plains has not won much with a record of 87-173. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 4A and 331st in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Chris White who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-19 over the past two seasons at White Plains. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach White. Coach White's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 1-19 (5.0%). The White Plains Wildcats will play in Class 4A region five during the 2017 season. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 62-49 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 4A and 59th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 15 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at White Plains will be to simply win some games. The Wildcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Ohatchee on Friday, September 1 at Robertson Field. Last year the Ohatchee Indians finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in second place in Class 3A region five. The Indians lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 53-26. White Plains and Ohatchee have met a total of 32 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 7-25-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2016 with Ohatchee winning by a score of 68-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
